🏆 Leading Breeder of the Tour

One of the final awards of the New Zealand Warmblood Classification Tour is one of the most prestigious — the Leading Breeder Award.

This award recognises the breeder whose three highest-scoring horses across the entire tour achieve the greatest combined score. With such a huge number of horses inspected during this year’s tour, having three horses rank among the very top is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the strength and consistency of a breeding programme.

This year’s Leading Breeder of the Tour is
✨ Gloriann Mullen – Wembleybrook Sport Horses ✨

Gloriann secured the title with three exceptional foals:
• Scarlet Witch WSH — by Supra Marvel WSH — 84.5%
• Carnyx Air WSH — by Cornet’s Air — 82.25%
• Supraman WSH — by Supra Marvel WSH — 80.25%
Total: 247 points

This year’s competition was extremely close, highlighting the strength of breeding programmes across the country:
• Catherine Smith — 246.75
• Paula Brocklehurst & Gregory Kingsley-Wilkins — 245.25
• Kieryn Walton from Walton Dressage Stables and also the team at VF Sporthorses
— 244.75
• Sandy Fryatt & Ross Beaven — 244

A special mention must also go to Murray Riches, a first-timer presenting foals on tour, who finished on an impressive 242.5 — an outstanding result and a very exciting debut!

When the margins are this tight, every decimal point counts — and it shows just how competitive and progressive sport horse breeding in New Zealand has become.

Better late than never, Capriole (Cassini II - Locato - Farnese) has had a 52 day positive scan to Euro Sport Exclusive Diamond ML.

Breeding season is now all ticked off for the year and we’re onto weaning.

Our c**ts were out to prove that they are as special as we thought they were. An excellence rosette was presented to Maverick VF as well.

First stop in Christchurch this morning took us to VF Sporthorses, where we met the very impressive Maverick VF.

This smart young c**t certainly made an impression on Matthias, earning an Excellence Award with a score of 81.75%.
By Conthalou and out of the proven mare Capriole — a Cassini II × Locato × Farnese line who has already produced a number of quality New Zealand Warmblood foals — the pedigree speaks for itself.

But it was his way of going that really caught the eye.

✔️ 80% for confirmation
✔️ Elastic, expressive movement
✔️ 8.5 for both trot and canter
✔️ Masculine, well-proportioned, always travelling uphill
A lovely, athletic type with plenty of presence and quality for the future.

It’s always nerve wracking going into foal inspections with foals you think will do well… Monaco VF exceeded our expectations with not only getting an excellence award but he scored a whopping 84% for his movement! We’ve always said that Denise’s foals are beautiful movers but Monaco has always been a step above the rest.

VF Sporthorses kicked off their Christchurch presentation in serious style, bringing out an absolute standout first — the striking c**t Monaco VF.

Monaco VF has now rocketed to the top of the show jumping leaderboard with a huge 83.5% — Excellence Award. 👏

In just over a week, our 2026 NZWA Classification Tour officially kicks off — and we are so excited to welcome Matthias Werner back to New Zealand 🇩🇪✈️

At last count, we have an outstanding lineup:

• 112 foals
• 28 mares
• 4 stallions
• 18 young stock

With still room for a few more to be added 👀

That puts us at around 150–160 horses being assessed right across the country — an incredible reflection of how far New Zealand warmblood breeding has come.

This is where New Zealand’s premium foals rise to the surface.

Where else can you see over 100 foals, assessed under one system, travelling from one end of the country to the other — and divided into purpose-bred categories for:

✨ Eventing
✨ Show Jumping

It’s not just about scores — it’s about identifying true breeding direction, consistency, and quality.

Maverick VF (Conthalou x Cassini II x Locato) looking picture perfect on his way back to the paddock after scanning this afternoon.

Capriole is now carrying one little Euro Sport Exclusive Diamond ML foal after a successful twin pinch.

Treats for an overachiever. Capriole scanned in foal to Euro Sport Horses Exclusive Diamond ML with unexpected twins!

Twin pinch looked to be successful but Capri will be checked again later this week to make sure she still has just the one baby on board. This highlights the importance of an excellent scanning regime as Capri only produced one dominant follicle and there was only one noted CL indicating one ovulation 24 hours post insemination.

Already looking forward to this view of Denise (Indoctro x Flower Power) with a newborn foal come November. Today she had a positive 47 day scan to Corofino II.
