I was thrilled to realise that one of last seasons foals would technically be recorded as a AA graded registered Appaloosa. I've been working towards this for the past 20 odd years!

His name is DayDream Ezy Cheyenne and I believe that he would be the only one in NZ to have this status.

My Appaloosa journey began back in the early 2000s when I had my heart set on buying a black leopard Appaloosa. I then discovered they were like hens teeth to find and those that had them didn't want to let them go. During my search I also learnt that there were only a small few breeders that had Appy to Appy bloodlines for three generations.

So my quest began! I set out to breed Appy to Appy over more generations, aiming for wonderful temperaments, confirmation, soundness and colour. I was introduced to the Appaloosa Association by a fellow breeder, Debbie McRae in Taupo and was keen to join and meet the other members.

Back then they had a grading system for measuring the bloodlines in their pedigrees. It started at a base level, being TB, QH or Arab X Appaloosa to be an F grade, then the grades went up to D, C, B, A and AA being the highest purity of blood. Later, around 2014 this system was abolished, and disappointingly they no longer record this recognition.

Over the years, simply for my own reference, I've kept track of my horses as they grade up.

Cheyenne has an amazing temperament and is so easy to handle. I am very proud to have achieved breeding this handsome boy. šŸ˜
So.... keep watching as more foals like him will follow with each foaling season.

It’s really great to have visitors who love to come and see these amazing Appaloosas.
Maureen Summerell and her friend, Denise came for a visit. It was soo cool showing them both around and chatting about horses and farming.
Maureen is the proud owner of DayDream Fire Comet, who is 18 months old, now.
The weather also put on a good show while they were here…

Afterwards we had afternoon tea with a yummy chocolate brownie that Denise had made and yummy Anzac biscuits that Heather had just made.
Thank you ladies for coming….

Very seldom in NZ do we see 2 leopard horses together in the paddock, let alone 3, so while we had the chance and a beautiful sunny day, Heather went photo snapping. I hope you enjoy them. šŸ˜€šŸ˜€

This darling wee lady, Digby, started her life in the far north, not far from Kaitaia.
But at the tender age of 6 months, she was in a very poor state and was part of a rescue mission, which Pai was a part of.

At 1 year old Sarah got her, still in a very undernourished way, and she moved to the Warkworth area. Sarah was the one to give her, her name…

At 2 years old she moved to Kylie, in the lower Waikato area where she spent around 6 years.

At 8 years, Digby came to me to be a broodmare and had a gorgeous bay filly, while here.

Two years later, I decided to find another home for her. This was a hard decision as she was so sweet natured… good on the inside and out….
Karen at Brookby Heights said that she would take her and extend her education.
Pai then spotted her on Karen’s page and was smitten 🄰

Digby moved onto Pai’s which funnily enough is at Kaitaia, so Digby has done a full circle in her life.
As I was talking to Pai explaining that she was rescued 10 years ago, from up her way, the penny dropped and Pai realised that this was the filly that she had helped to rescue all those years ago and Pai was so overwhelmed with emotion…
This stunning mare now lives a life of ease and luxury with friends to hang out with and then to go on rides to the beach and through the forestry, with Pai, which Digby just loves doing.

This gorgeous mare is DayDream Little Mischief.
Though she isn’t that little now… at 4 yrs old she stands at around 15.1hh and is still growing.
Carolynn Fay James is Mischief’s proud owner.

Mischief’s dam is DayDream Black Spook.
Her sire is DayDream Rock N Roll

Mischief has returned to get in foal to Earinas Fire Toby.
Toby was very attached to her and even though they were in with the other mares, these two hung on the outer edge together a lot
Sadly for Toby, Mischief went home, but Toby being Toby he did call a couple of times for Mischief and then just joined in being a part of the herd again…

I am really excited to see the foal that arrives from these two.
