Whangārei was our last city in New Zealand, and it gave us more than we could have imagined!

From day one, we felt welcomed and deeply appreciated. We shared a post in the local Facebook groups — actually two, to be part of both Whangārei communities — and both went viral, bringing an overwhelming number of comments, messages, and requests.

We were hosted by incredible people who opened their homes and their lives to us. They showed us around their farms, taught us how to milk cows, we walked through endless Christmas tree fields and cooked for families and groups of friends.
We even had the honour of cooking for an 82nd birthday, celebrating a wonderful lady who truly loved Italy.

What stayed with us the most was how appreciated we felt. Everyone offered something that went beyond the simple moment itself — a gesture, a story, a connection.
And this is one of the most beautiful things about New Zealand: open hearts, generosity, and a genuine sense of community.

Whangārei wasn’t just our last city.
It was the perfect farewell to an unforgettable chapter.

Nelson ☀️ Our longest stop so far

A lot of people told us about this little town – known for being one of the sunniest and warmest spots in New Zealand – so we had already decided to spend the winter here. But we didn’t expect it to be THIS GOOD! 😎

This place has it all: close to the sea, well-equipped, full of things to do, and surrounded by tracks, lakes and national parks – perfect for our days off from the Taste Italy adventure.
But beyond all these perks, there’s something more: we’re experiencing real word of mouth. We’re going from friend to friend, relative to relative, follower to follower – and it’s just beautiful!
We love the Kiwi and Māori openness, and here we’ve felt it more than ever.

More Taste Italy nights mean new faces, fresh stories, and unique atmospheres to co-create.

Between Invercargill and Dunedin we’ve met so many wonderful people, each with their own flavour and energy. And while we haven’t always captured every evening in photos or videos, we’ve come to love that. It keeps things real. Not everything needs to be documented to be remembered.

In this post, we’re sharing two very different stories.

One is of a warm, loving family in Invercargill — mum, dad, and three kids — who all jumped in to prepare the dishes together. The kitchen was full of laughter, questions, and tiny hands helping out. It felt like being home.

The other is from a wild, eclectic mix of friends — some long-time mates, some on their first dates — who turned our Taste Italy night into something bigger: an explosion of creativity, connection, and shared joy that went way beyond food.

Third stop of the Taste Italy tour —> Te Anau & Milford Sound!
Everyone talks about the land of fiords, and we couldn’t wait to see it.
But then our project, Taste Italy, does what it always does: it brings us inside people’s homes and lives.
Every time it’s different. We know it’s an experience for those who host us — but honestly, for us it’s simply magical.
Being welcomed into someone’s home, sharing quality time with strangers who quickly feel like old friends…
You never know what’s going to happen once things start to flow.
Thank you to everyone who’s had the curiosity (and the courage!) to open your door and let a little piece of Italy land in your dining room. 🧡🍕
