Well HELLO October, you beautiful ray of sunshine! 🌞
I don’t want to jinx this stunning weather, but it’s certainly been a long time coming! ☀️
September was definitely a month of challenges. The hen coops were on 5–7 day shifts, trying to keep the mud to a minimum and, most importantly, the eggs clean! Those little feet certainly know how to make a mess — although they do seem to thoroughly enjoy digging around in the puddles hunting for bugs. 🐔💦
Egg collecting became a mad dash between showers. It didn’t always go quite to plan, but I’m so glad we created a covered collection area at the front. It means we can stay nice and dry while collecting, and even wait out the odd shower with the hens.
Egg production did drop a tad, with the girls spending more time running in and out of the coop between showers.
And the good news… 🥚✨
We had another flock of pullets arrive two weeks ago, and I’ve already spied a few little eggs! Thankfully, the ute delivering them didn’t get stuck towing them out to the paddock — another win after all that rain! 😂
And Nectar & Nest turned THREE! 🥳🎉
Now that we finally have our heads above water, we can actually stop and celebrate this pretty special milestone. Three years — what a journey it’s been!
