A meaningful day of learning and hands-on experience at the IHFSA, Longlong, Bektey, Benguet, as we explored practical approaches to improving coffee production through agroforestry, proper pruning, rejuvenation, and integrated pest management.
🌳 Sir Christopher P. Deponio, Director of IHFSA, explained on Why Agroforestry, including the different Agroforestry Systems and Practices in the Highland, and how these approaches contribute to sustainable coffee farming.
✂️ Sir Cirilo C. Del Rosario III discussed Coffee Rejuvenation and Pruning, giving us a deeper understanding of how proper pruning can help maintain productive and healthy coffee trees.
🌿 Ma’am Loida A. Sadey, together with her team, demonstrated the actual process of coffee pruning and rejuvenation, explaining step-by-step how the practices are properly carried out. The participants then had the opportunity to apply what they learned through a return demonstration, turning knowledge into hands-on experience.
🐞☕ To complete the learning session, Ma’am Hazzel Kith Dumpayan discussed Coffee Berry Borer (CBB) Management, including the proper preparation and use of CBB Lure Traps as part of integrated coffee pest management.
From understanding the bigger picture of agroforestry to getting our hands on the coffee trees, every lesson reminded us that quality coffee begins with proper care of the farm.🌱☕
