Balungao Integrated Farm Growing Farmers. Feeding the Future.

From two stalks, now three.

Dr. Arnel del Barrio of UPLB’s Institute of Animal Science inspecting the ratooned sorghum at Balungao Integrated Farm.

What started as a single plant has developed into multiple vigorous tillers, taller, thicker, and still not yet at flowering stage, with more room for biomass accumulation in the days ahead.

In the hottest and driest conditions of the year, resilient forage systems matter.

This is why Balungao Integrated Farm continues to explore crops that can help strengthen long term feed security for Philippine livestock producers.

Seeing experienced people in livestock and forage development take interest in sorghum under current Philippine conditions is encouraging.

Thank you to Dr. Arnel del Barrio of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños and Mr. Joel Adducul of ADAMCO for visiting our preflowering sorghum plantation at Balungao Integrated Farm.

Even during one of the hottest periods of the year, the crop continues to show strong vigor and promising biomass potential.

We believe resilient forage systems will become increasingly important for the future of livestock production in the Philippines.

Some crops struggle in extreme heat.
Some systems adapt.

This first ratoon sorghum field in San Aurelio 1st, Balungao, Pangasinan produced:
6,200 kg on the first load
6,550 kg on the second load

From just 0.28 hectare.
Equivalent to roughly 45 tons per hectare fresh weight for silage.

No replanting.
No additional land preparation in between cycles.
Less water demand during one of the hottest periods of the year in Pangasinan.

This is why resilient forage systems matter for the future of Philippine livestock production.

From Balungao, Pangasinan to Pagbilao, Quezon Province.

Baled corn silage produced under real Philippine conditions and delivered to support livestock raisers beyond our province.

At Balungao Integrated Farm, we believe reliable feed supply, resilience, and long term partnerships matter.

Maraming salamat sa tiwala.

Hindi lang ito basta corn silage. 🌽

Ito ay feed security para sa livestock farmers.
Ito ay preparation para sa tag init.
Ito ay resulta ng araw araw na trabaho ng mga taong patuloy na lumalaban para maging sustainable ang pagsasaka.

Another BIF silage delivery bound for Manaoag, Pangasinan.

43°C heat index sa Pangasinan.

Pero tuloy ang sorghum harvest.

Sa panahon ng init at pabago-bagong klima, mahalaga ang crops na kayang lumaban.

Less water demand. Strong regrowth. Reliable forage.

Built for Philippine conditions.

This is the second time we will be harvesting sorghum for silage production from the same fields this year.

In the hottest months of the year in Pangasinan, sorghum can continue producing biomass under conditions where corn may struggle more with heat and water stress.

That resilience matters when livestock operations need a more reliable feed supply during unpredictable weather.

Corn is still a powerful silage crop.
But during extreme heat, sorghum gives farmers another tool for feed security.

Nearing its second harvest from the same field.
No additional land preparation in between.
Lower water consumption. Lower fuel costs. More efficiency.

During the hottest and driest months in Pangasinan and many parts of the Philippines, sorghum continues to thrive.

When feed supply becomes uncertain, resilient crops matter.

This is why we continue building farm systems designed for real Philippine conditions, not perfect ones.

While the dry season continues to challenge many livestock raisers, another load of baled silage leaves Balungao Integrated Farm.

Grateful for the trust placed in our team, and even more grateful for the people behind every bale loaded under the heat of the sun.

One day at a time. One load at a time. Keeping farms moving forward.
