Muling itinutulak ni Senate Minority Leader Alan Cayetano ang pagbuo ng Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources sa Pilipinas.

Ito ay kasunod ng nakakabahalang pagbaba ng produkyon ng isda sa bansa.

Ayon kay Cayetano, base sa datos na lumalabas, tinatayang aabot sa 45,472 metric tons ng isda ang nawawala sa bansa kada taon sa nakalipas na isang dekada na siyang nagdudulot ng pangamba sa food security at long term stability ng sector.

Maliban pa rito, sinabi ng senador na mahalagang maisulong ito dahil nanatili pa rin bilang parte ng 'poorest sector' ang halos ng mga mangingisda.

Sa ilalim ng Senate Bill No. 417, magiging tungkulin ng DFAR ang pagbuo at pagpapatupad ng Comprehensive National Fisheries Industry Development Plan.

Sila na rin ang mag-iisyu ng lisensya para sa operasyon ng commercial fishing vessels.

Samantala, bubuiin naman ito ng isang kalihim, apat na undersecretary na siyang mangunguna sa fisheries production, fisheries conservation, operation at maging finance. | via Anne Cortez
