LEADERSHIP IS INTENTIONAL
It is not simply a title, or a position, or a profession. It is a sacred calling by God to bring others closer to Him and who He has created them to be.
Leadership is guiding people in the right direction.
For Christians, leadership is taking the initiative to guide people toward Christ, Christ-likeness, and Christ's mission for the world.
There are many things that destroy great leadership, but these 7 are among the top:
🚫 LACK OF VISION
🚫 HESITATION
🚫 POOR UNDERSTANDING OF PEOPLE
🚫 EGO/PRIDE
🚫 NEED FOR CONTROL
🚫 LACK OF SELF-DEVELOPMENT
🚫 FEAR OF LOSING AUTHORITY
When leaders lack vision for their people, they lead the people in circles. There is no goal. There is no place we're all going together. There is no purpose. Leaders must have a clear vision they lead their people toward.
When leaders hesitate on every decision they make because they are insecure, they create an environment where others cannot trust God or what God says. Leaders must be confident in God's Word and direction.
When leaders fail to understand their people, their people simply become a cog in the machine of their own desire. They will pick and choose whom THEY want, so long as those people fulfill their personal agenda. Leaders must recognize God has placed potential in everyone, and those who are working towards Christ's ends are the "right people," not those who fulfill your agenda.
When leaders lead by ego, everything revolves around them. They see nothing but that leader. No God. No Christ. No mission of the Holy Spirit. Leaders must allow Christ to crucify their old selves so that they can give glory to God and point people to Jesus only.
When leaders insist on control, they act as if they are God to those around them. They think not even the Holy Spirit can change their plans! Leaders must trust God and those around them to do what is best for the Kingdom, even if that means they lose some control.
When leaders refuse to keep growing, keep reading, and keep learning, they become dissociated from reality and remain stuck in the past, giving advice that is irrelevant and ideas that are outdated. Leaders must continue to grow, and learn, and challenge themselves so that they can lead their people in the present.
When leaders fear they will lose authority, they often ruin their own ministry by forcing out good people who might "threaten" their position. They become demanding and overbearing. Leaders must realize their authority is a stewardship from God that can be taken away at any time. It is a privilege, not a right.
When we lead well, under the banner of Christ's example, we see not only our ministry flourish, but also our people flourish.
It may be messy at first, but Christ's way is always the right way.
Let's fight to be good leaders who build others up rather than destroy them.
That's what Jesus did.
Keep Thinking!
