The Almaciga tree (Agathis philippinensis), also called the Philippine Kauri, is one of the oldest and tallest trees in the country. These forest giants can live for over 1,000 years, soar to 200 feet, and grow trunks up to 8 feet wide.

But fewer than 1,000 mature Almaciga trees remain in the wild today, threatened by illegal logging, resin overharvesting, and habitat loss.

Protecting the Almaciga means safeguarding a living relic of pre-colonial Philippine forests—a witness to centuries of natural history now on the brink of disappearing.
