🚫 2. Hindi sinusunod ang FIFO/FEFO
“Nauna pumasok, nauna gamitin.”

MARINO PH | Shipowner Offers Six Months’ Salary Bonus for Seafarers Willing to Transit Strait of Hormuz

As security threats continue to disrupt commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one shipowner has reportedly offered seafarers a bonus equal to six months of their salary to encourage them to undertake voyages through the conflict-prone waterway. The exceptional offer highlights the increasing challenges faced by shipping companies in securing crews willing to operate in areas affected by heightened geopolitical tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically important shipping corridors, serving as a vital gateway for global oil and energy exports. However, repeated attacks on merchant vessels, military activity, and persistent regional instability have significantly increased operational risks, prompting many seafarers to carefully weigh personal safety against financial incentives.

Industry organizations have consistently emphasized that the welfare and safety of seafarers must remain the highest priority. While financial incentives may encourage some crews to accept high-risk assignments, companies are expected to ensure that appropriate risk assessments, security measures, and crew protections are in place before vessels enter potentially dangerous waters.

Maritime experts caution that generous bonuses cannot eliminate the dangers associated with operating in conflict zones. Beyond the physical risks, prolonged exposure to security threats can have significant psychological and emotional impacts on seafarers and their families, reinforcing the importance of prioritizing crew welfare over commercial considerations.

As tensions in the region continue, shipping companies are closely monitoring security developments while reviewing voyage plans and implementing enhanced protective measures. The situation highlights the vital role of seafarers in keeping global trade moving, even as they face increasing risks in some of the world's most challenging maritime environments.
