A standard 100g serving of fresh aratiles (Muntingia calabura), also known as the Jamaica cherry or kerson fruit, is exceptionally rich in Vitamin C, Calcium, and antioxidants
Aratiles is native to Philippines but not indigenous. It can grow as big as a chico tree and bears a ton of fruit. usually towards summer. The intense sweetness of the fruit carries dense medicinal value, packed with secondary metabolites like flavonoids, tannins, and saponins - which helps Gout/Uric Acid Management, Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Management, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Aside from its amazingly juicy, sweet and nutrition-rich fruit, the leaves can also be used as an herbal tea which transforms the plant's dense concentration of flavonoids, polyphenols, and essential oils into an easily absorbable liquid form
Our tree started giving fruit at the start of summer but surprisingly still giving tons of fruit towards this rainy season. Let me know if you want more of these in your baskets or if you are not getting it, let me know if you want to try it. It is very popular among my kids as a quick healthy snack!!!
