After a week of rain, the sunshine is a welcome sight. What a lovely day to harvest mangoes and serve it with vegan “bagoong” for a simple yet filling snack this Friday holiday. Perfect for someone who just wants to stay cozy in bed and just have a good read. Come and visit to experience 😍

Every parent’s worst nightmare is seeing their kids subjected to unfair treatment or being misunderstood, especially in public spaces. For families whose children are on the spectrum, that fear becomes a thousand times scarier than they imagine.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Filipino celebrity chef, award-winning author, and restaurateur Chef Tatung emphasized that hospitality in the food and beverage industry doesn’t just end with politely greeting guests at the door or serving what they ordered on time.

“Hospitality is something else. It is kapwa—recognizing the person across from you and understanding that, for the length of a meal, their difficulty becomes partly yours to carry,” read Chef Tatung’s statement. “It is malasakit—care that moves before it is asked to. By that measure, we came up short.”

The statement follows a letter that Chef Tatung received from a mother whose child is on the autism spectrum. He shared that the mother had planned a birthday dinner in one of his establishments, noting the child has sensory sensitivities that make eating outside his comfort foods genuinely difficult.

Although the child has a favorite dish at the restaurant, the mother brought familiar food from home as backup.

“That dish wasn’t available that day. And when she brought out the food from home, she was charged a corkage fee she hadn’t been told about—at the very moment she was simply trying to make the evening work for her son,” Chef Tatung elaborated.

He recognized that his team “came up short” of "kapwa" and "malasakit."

“Because that birthday dinner was never really about a dish or a fee,” he continued. “It was about whether a child could sit at a table meant for celebration and, for one evening, simply be another kid enjoying dinner with his family. That is the bar. Not whether we followed policy. Whether he felt at home.”

Chef Tatung said he’s thankful to the parent for giving such honest feedback and showing that raising awareness and taking action must go hand in hand.

“And perhaps this is worth sharing because I doubt we are the only restaurant with this blind spot. As our understanding of autism and neurodiversity grows, our hospitality must grow with it. We will not always understand immediately. But we can learn to ask. We can learn to listen. And we can choose to care. Because underneath all of this is a much simpler lesson: The more we understand people, the better we can care for them.”

Pinoys praised Chef Tatung’s humility and candor, hoping more restaurant owners and establishments will take the necessary steps toward inclusivity.

“Thank you for your thoughts, Chef. It takes humility and genuine compassion to receive feedback the way you did,” read one comment.

“I hope this encourages more businesses to become more understanding and accommodating to persons with disabilities, and even consider internships and employment opportunities for PWDs,” another netizen said.

“Farms that Raised Me” a photo essay submitted by our 15 year old Elizabeth for her photography class☺️ Four of the photographs were taken at Lorenzo’s Sanctuary, while the other two were captured at the farm school. In these places she spent many of her happiest early childhood years. Through these images, she shares how these places helped shape her love for nature, learning and simple joys. We are happy to see this beautiful story she tells through her lens. Thank you Lizzie!!!

We were honored to welcome Tito Jay Dimapilis of Agree sa Agri to Lorenzo’s Sanctuary! 🌱💚

It was a meaningful day of sharing ideas, experiences, and a common vision—promoting natural farming as a sustainable way of caring for both the land and the people who depend on it.

One advocacy that truly connects us is the importance of introducing children to farming at an early age. By giving young minds the opportunity to plant, nurture, and harvest, we help them develop a deeper appreciation for nature, healthy food, and responsible stewardship of the environment.

As a social media creator who inspires many through agriculture, Agree sa Agri continues to show that farming can be engaging, educational, and relevant to the next generation. We are grateful for the visit and the opportunity to strengthen our shared mission of cultivating future farmers and environmental stewards.

Thank you, Agree sa Agri, for spending time with us. We look forward to growing this advocacy together—one seed, one child, and one farm at a time. 🌾✨
