El Niño Alert issued ⚠️

DOST-PAGASA has officially raised its ENSO Alert and Warning System to El Niño Alert, following the high likelihood of its development in the coming months and possible persistence into early 2027. This may bring drier-than-usual conditions, including dry spells and droughts in parts of the country.

However, above-normal rainfall may still be experienced over the western sections during the Habagat season.

The Royalty of Ube

Ube Kinampay / Purple Yam - (Dioscorea alata) is primarily propagated using tuber setts (pieces) or smaller whole tubers planted at the beginning of the rainy season (roughly May in the Philippines). For faster multiplication, tubers are cut into "minisetts," treated with wood ash to prevent rot, and cured for 1–2 days before planting in loose, sandy loam soil for pre sprouting method in a nursery. Plant out when the minisetts ube sprouts are strong and healthy in May. 💜

Philippine Frogmouth bird's nest and egg. Locally known as Manhak. We are happy to see these birds yearly nesting around our Cacao trees almost at same location. Amazing how they know where they constructed their nests before. Lots of birds are nesting at this time of year. 🕊️

The Philippine frogmouth (Batrachostomus septimus) is a nocturnal, insect-eating bird endemic to the Philippines, known for its exceptional camouflage that makes it look like a broken branch. It has a large, frog-like mouth, large eyes for night vision, and cryptic plumage with rufous or brown color morphs, often with white markings on the chest and wings. This secretive bird is found in lowland and montane forests, hunting large insects like grasshoppers and beetles, and is often heard before it's seen due to its raspy calls. 💕
