On August 9, the Global Shapers Community – Cebu Hub came together to pause, align, and set the direction for the year ahead. 🌊✨

Led by Curator Arnold Dy, Vice Curator Fiel Aquino, and Impact Officer Mary Jean Lozano, the Hub’s Strategic Planning Session was an opportunity to turn our shared ideas into clear priorities and meaningful action.

With a new leadership team at the helm, we’re excited to build on the Cebu Hub’s momentum—strengthening our community, deepening our impact, and creating initiatives that respond to the needs of Cebu and its people.

Our Curator, Arnold Dy, has just wrapped up attending the Global Shapers Annual Summit in Geneva, Switzerland!

Held from June 30 to July 2, brought together Shapers from around the world to connect, collaborate, and shape the future of our global community.

We're also proud to share that Global Shapers Cebu Hub was recognized as one of 22 hubs worldwide that participated in the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP) initiative. Our hub produced a video highlighting the plastic waste situation in Cebu and the need for collective action.

We'll be sharing our video with you soon—stay tuned! 💙🌏

OUR IMPACT IN NUMBERS 💙

From joy and gratitude to stress, exhaustion, and anxiety, the “Kumusta Ka?” and "Ila-ila Ta Besh!" zones revealed the realities many young people quietly carry every day. 💙

Key insights from the initiative:
✨ Majority of participants were youth aged 18–24
✨ Employed youth formed the largest participant group, followed closely by students
✨ 19 sitios and locations were represented, showing the wide reach of community engagement
✨ Conversations highlighted both resilience and the need for continued safe spaces for expression

Every sticky note, every emotion shared, and every conversation started is a reminder that listening matters.

This is only the beginning of building stronger, more connected, and more emotionally aware communities together.

Working with Cebu City's Youth Leaders to Strengthen to Mental Health Awareness 💙

We are honored to work with Barangay Lahug's Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK), represented by KK President Nicole Odon, to pilot the Self-Love corner at Lahug's Mr and Ms SK Event. By working with barangay youth leaders, projectWAVE demonstrated how easy it was to create a space where people feel seen, heard, and connected.

Project WAVE: Pillar 2 – Wave Makers brought together Barangay Health Workers and SK Leaders for a full-day Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Workshop focused on learning, reflection, and community care. 💙

Through open discussions, interactive activities, and shared experiences, participants strengthened their understanding of mental health, active listening, and how to better support the people around them.

From awareness to action, every session reminded us that stronger communities begin with empathy, understanding, and people willing to show up for one another.

We were honored to be part of Mr. & Ms. SK Lahug 2026 alongside the amazing youth leaders of Barangay Lahug! ✨

Through Project WAVE, the Global Shapers Community Cebu Hub joined the event to create a safe and empowering space that promotes self-love, mental health awareness, and meaningful conversations among the youth. From creative activities and photobooths to simple moments of connection, every interaction reminds us that mental health matters — and no one should go through things alone. 🤝

Thank you to everyone who dropped by our corner and helped make the day brighter, warmer, and more hopeful. 👋💙

We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Cebu City Government through the office of Hon. Real conversations create real change. 💙

The Global Shapers Community Cebu Hub conducted a Focus Group Discussion with the youth leaders of Barangay Lahug to better understand the realities, challenges, and opportunities surrounding mental health in their community.

Through open dialogue and shared experiences, these young leaders helped shape conversations on how communities can become safer, more supportive spaces for mental wellness. Because meaningful mental health initiatives begin by listening first. 🤝

This activity is part of our continuing commitment through Project WAVE to empower communities and co-create solutions grounded in the voices of the people they serve.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Cebu City Government through the office of Hon.
