The OJTs have officially clocked out after 240 hours of grit, sweat, and immersive learning. These guys didn't just shadow the teamโthey spearheaded our Ube (๐๐ฒ๐ธ๐ผ๐ฌ๐ธ๐ป๐ฎ๐ช ๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฝ๐ช ๐.) contour farming project.
It wasn't a walk in the park. They faced the ultimate "welcome to the farm" package: a persistent drought and the unapologetic, rocky terrain of these hills. But through teamwork and pure diligence, they proved that even the toughest topography canโt stop a determined crew.
Educational Spotlight: Why Contour Farming?
We chose the Contour Method for our Ube for a few critical reasons:
โข Soil Conservation: By planting across the slope, we create concrete breaks that prevent heavy rains from washing away our precious topsoil.
โข Water Retention: In drought-prone areas, these "steps" slow down runoff, giving the ground more time to soak up every drop of water.
โข Ube Resilience: Ube thrives in well-drained soil, but on steep slopes, it needs the stability of contouring to prevent root exposure.
Big thanks to the boys for the hard work. Youโre leaving the land better than you found it. Good luck out thereโthe agriculture world is lucky to have you!
