Our Rhode island Red Production type and Classic White Leghorn in there Breeding pen Familiarization
roosters absolutely need time to familiarize themselves with a breeding pen before the breeding season begins to reduce stress, prevent fighting, and ensure optimal fertility.
Why Familiarization is Important
-Reduces Fighting: Roosters establish and defend their territories. If a mature rooster is suddenly thrust into a new pen alongside hens or other roosters, he will be highly defensive and may fight.
-Lowers Stress: Moving to a completely unfamiliar, enclosed space causes stress, which temporarily halts the laying cycle for hens and negatively affects the rooster's fertility.
-Promotes Mating: A bird that is comfortable and familiar with its surroundings will settle into its routine and begin mating much faster than a frightened bird.
