Graduating from college doesn't guarantee an immediate job. Finding stable employment can take weeks, months, or even years. Many fresh graduates face a competitive job market where opportunities are limited, and available positions often don't match their qualifications or field of study.
Because of these realities, some graduates accept jobs outside their chosen profession just to earn a living. This is not a sign of failure, it's often a reflection of the gap between the number of graduates and the quality and availability of jobs. Strengthening employment programs, creating more sustainable job opportunities, and improving the connection between education and industry are challenges that policymakers and institutions need to address.
So if you see a fresh graduate taking time to rest, searching for work, or trying different career paths, allow them that space. Avoid asking about their employment status or salary unless they choose to share. Instead of adding pressure, offer encouragement or practical support if you can. Success doesn't follow the same timeline for everyone.
