Building Possibilities: More Than Just a Workshop
At I Want Burger Davao (IWB), we believe that every child has unique strengths waiting to be discovered. That’s why we launched Building Possibilities—a series of child-centred workshops designed to help children develop practical, meaningful skills that could one day become a source of confidence, independence, and even future livelihood.
We were thrilled to kick off the series with our Tote Bag Art Workshop, facilitated by Teacher Dominic, an experienced art educator who has worked extensively with children with special needs. Through his patience, creativity, and understanding, he created an inclusive environment where families could learn, create, and celebrate each child’s abilities together.
One thing that made this workshop different was that parent participation was required—not optional.
This was a deliberate decision.
We believe that learning doesn’t end when a workshop does. By involving parents throughout the session, we hope they gain the confidence to continue practicing these skills with their children at home. The more opportunities children have to practice in familiar environments, the more meaningful and lasting the learning becomes.
We also recognize that many children feel more comfortable trying new experiences when their parents are beside them. That sense of security encourages them to explore, express themselves, and build confidence at their own pace.
Most importantly, we believe that parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. No one understands a child’s strengths, interests, sensory needs, communication style, and unique way of learning better than the people who are with them every day.
Within the autism community, we often talk about child-led learning—following a child’s interests, respecting their pace, and building on their strengths. At IWB, we wholeheartedly embrace this philosophy. We also believe that its impact becomes even greater when parents are actively involved in the journey.
When child-led learning is paired with empowered and engaged families, we’re doing more than teaching a new skill. We’re nurturing confidence, strengthening family connections, and opening doors to future opportunities.
Building Possibilities is more than a workshop series. It’s part of IWB’s commitment to creating spaces where children with autism and other developmental differences can discover their potential, families can learn together, and communities can see abilities before limitations.
Because at IWB, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to build a future filled with possibilities.
