The golden liquid in the photo is whey. It's the natural liquid removed during the traditional straining process of making real Greek yogurt.

Straining yogurt removes whey, resulting in the thick, creamy texture and higher protein content that Greek yogurt is known for.

However, not every thick yogurt sold as “Greek yogurt” is made this way. Some products may achieve a similar texture by using ingredients such as thickeners, stabilizers, starches, or powders instead of the traditional straining process.

As consumers, there’s nothing wrong with asking questions.

✅ Is it actually strained?
✅ What ingredients are used?
✅ Are there any thickeners, stabilizers, or added powders?

A transparent seller should be happy to explain how their product is made and provide a complete ingredient list.

At Organic Yogurt Davao, our Greek yogurt is made the traditional way:
