I have personally experienced this phenomenon. Despite not having graduated from a university, I have consistently demonstrated wisdom and insight. However, I have encountered individuals who have looked down on me or expressed disdain due to my lack of a formal degree.
Many years ago, I attended a function where I engaged in a discussion about homelessness with a distinguished gentleman. He was impressed by my knowledge and asked me a series of questions, which I answered confidently. However, when he inquired about my educational background and I revealed that I did not graduate from a university, his demeanor changed, and he ignored me for the remainder of the dinner.
It seemed that he was taken aback by the fact that I possessed a depth of understanding that rivaled his own, despite my lack of formal education.
I have also experienced this phenomenon with a loved one who, after graduating from a university, began to dismiss my opinions and insights, stating that I did not possess the necessary educational background to contribute to the conversation.
My experiences have taken me across the country, and I have encountered numerous individuals who seek to discredit my opinions and insights due to my lack of a formal degree.
I wholeheartedly support and applaud those who pursue higher education, and I am committed to furthering my own education as well. However, I firmly believe that empirical data is not solely derived from academic studies, but also from observation and personal experience.
Individuals who have walked in the shoes of those they seek to understand are often better equipped to provide insightful analysis than those who have merely studied the subject in a classroom. This is particularly relevant in today's educational landscape, where students are often guided towards predetermined conclusions rather than being encouraged to think critically and explore diverse perspectives.
