Why INTEGRATED FARMING?
Integrated farming (also called integrated farming system – IFS) is used because it combines different agricultural activities—like crops, livestock, fishery, poultry, etc.—into one system where each supports the other.
Here’s why integrated farming is important:
1. Better use of resources
Waste from one activity becomes input for another.
Example: animal dung → manure for crops
Crop residues → feed for animals
2. Higher productivity
Multiple outputs (crops + milk + eggs + fish) increase total farm production from the same land.
3. Increased income
Farmers earn from several sources instead of depending on only one crop.
4. Reduced risk
If one activity fails (e.g., crop failure), others (like dairy or poultry) still provide income.
5. Environmental sustainability
Reduces chemical fertilizer use
Improves soil fertility
Minimizes pollution and waste
6. Employment generation
Provides year-round work for farmers and families.
7. Efficient recycling
Promotes a natural cycle of nutrients, making farming more eco-friendly.
In short: Integrated farming is used to make agriculture more profitable, sustainable, and resilient by linking different farming activities together.
