Our GRAPE Journey
Unbeknownst to a lot of people and contrary to the belief of many, grapes do actually grow in a tropical country like ours here in the Philippines. This can be attested by the countless farms in areas around the country particularly in La Union in Luzon, Cebu and Iloilo in the Visayas and General Santos and Zamboanga in Mindanao.
Grapes have always been a favorite fruit served during special occasions and can be considered as a “prestige” crop. Like other families the Cruzes have always liked the fruit and always felt that grapes produced locally should be available all the time. So when the opportunity presented itself to plant it, they immediately grabbed the chance and did so. What started out with a few vines bought from a local grape grower somewhere in Iloilo have now grown into a good number that will hopefully not just satisfy the needs of the family but also with that of more.
A lot of trials and challenges in growing the crop have been experienced along the way, but through patience, hard work and dedication plus the technical aid of people who have had experiences in growing it have helped shape the farm to what it is now.
One of the hopes and advocacies of the farm and its owners is to share and educate what little knowledge that were derived from a year’s worth of patience and hard work in trying to produce the sweet and flavorful grapes.
