All due to cool climate, Cordillera’s rich mountain soil and watered with spring’s fresh water.

AMALIA JABANES
Brgy. Antongalon, Butuan City

Ms. Amalia Jabanes, a farmer from Barangay Antongalon, Butuan City, shifted from traditional rice farming to vegetable farming through the AgriBOOST Project. For years, Amalia depended on rice farming, but limited profits, seasonal income gaps, and vulnerability to pests and floods made it difficult to sustain her family’s needs. Her openness to innovation led her to embrace AgriBOOST, where she received training in vegetable production, improved farm management, and access to stable markets.

Through this intervention, Amalia diversified into high-value vegetables, achieved multiple harvests per year, and significantly increased both her production and income. Beyond strengthening her household’s financial stability, her farm expansion created job opportunities for neighbors, contributing to local employment and food security. Amalia’s experience demonstrates how the right support system can empower farmers to transform challenges into opportunities, proving that agricultural development is not only about higher yields but also about resilience, entrepreneurship, and inclusive community growth.
