Weโre excited and proud to share that Director Remia Aparri has been selected as the first-ever representative from the Philippines to join the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Programโs Multi-Stakeholder Group (2024โ2026). This global team helps shape science-based ratings and standards for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Her appointment puts the Philippines among leading voices in responsible seafood production and highlights the growing influence of DA-BFAR 6 in international sustainability work.
Director Aparri brings a proven track record to this role. As Regional Director of DA-BFAR 6, Chairperson of the Blue Swimming Crab National TWG, and Chairperson of the FMA 11 Management Board, she has led efforts that combine science, community partnership, and practical field experience. Through BFARโs strong collaboration with the Monterey Bay Aquarium on blue swimming crab conservation, she has championed data-driven policies, stock recovery initiatives, and multi-sector cooperation. Her appointment ensures that the Philippine experience, which is rooted in both science and real-world fisheries work, has a strong voice in shaping global standards.
