Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a visitor and a tourist in tourism vocabulary? โ‰๏ธ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคฏ

In 2024, DOTVI consolidated from all tourism destinations in the region a total of 5.9 million tourists or overnight visitors, and 14.26 million same-day visitor arrivals. The biggest contributors to these influxes are Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan and the Province of Iloilo, respectively!

In the tourism industry, "visitor" is the term used to refer to its clients or customers, and is differentiated based on how they engage in tourism activities:
๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐™๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง๐™ž๐™จ๐™ฉ (๐™ค๐™ซ๐™š๐™ง๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™œ๐™๐™ฉ ๐™ซ๐™ž๐™จ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ง) is a visitor who stays at least one night in a collective or private accommodation in the destination visited.
๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐™Ž๐™–๐™ข๐™š-๐™™๐™–๐™ฎ ๐™ซ๐™ž๐™จ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ง is a visitor who does not spend the night in a collective or private accommodation in the destination visited. They are also known as "excursionist or day tripper".

Amazing, right? Two terms, two figures that serve different meanings and purposesโ€”but both are vital for tourism growth.

So the next time you explore attractions and destinations in the region, donโ€™t be confused if someone calls you a visitor or a touristโ€ฆ because you can definitely be both!

Who will fulfill the dream of Aklan province, the first municipality to be converted into a city? Both Kalibo, the capital town of Aklan, and Malay (Boracay), a premier tourist destination in the Philippines, are vying for the most coveted title as the first city of Aklan.

๐Ž๐ ๐๐‡๐Ž๐“๐Ž๐’: The earliest known record of the Kalibo Seรฑor Sto. Niรฑo Ati-Atihan Festival dates back to December 12, 1936, when Luis M. Enriquez of the Philippine Free Press captured a powerful image of soot-covered devotees dancing in faith and jubilation. At that time, Kalibo was still part of Capiz and Ati-atihan is called Santo Niรฑo or Ati-Ati yet the spirit of the people already burned with the same devotion that continues to move generations today.
