Did you know???
That....

Silkies are one of the oldest known domesticated chicken breeds, dating back at least 1,000 years.
Their feathers lack barbs, making them soft and fur-like, which means they cannot fly. Unlike most chickens, Silkies have five toes instead of four, a genetic trait called polydactyly. They have black skin, muscles, and bones, making them distinct from other breeds. Their earlobes are a striking turquoise color, unique among chickens. Silkie hens are extremely broody and will hatch eggs from other birds, including ducks and geese. They lay around 120 small eggs per year, making them less productive than other breeds. Their fluffy feathers do not repel water, so they require extra care in wet conditions. Silkies are known for their docile and friendly nature, making them great pets. They come in various colors, including blue, white, buff, black, partridge, grey, and splash.

Did you know???

That Rhode Island Reds originally bred in the 1860s in New England, and are a dual-purpose breed, suitable for both meat and eggs. However, modern strains are primarily kept for egg production. Rhode Island Red chickens are a popular breed known for their hardiness, friendly temperament, and impressive egg-laying abilities. Here are some key facts about them:
- *Egg Production*: They lay around 200-300 large brown eggs per year, with some strains producing up to 300 eggs annually. They start laying eggs as early as 18-20 weeks old.
- *Temperament*: Rhode Island Reds are friendly, active, and assertive. They're great with humans but can be dominant and noisy within a flock.
- *Hardiness*: They're extremely resilient to cold and disease, making them ideal for varied climates.
- *Appearance*: They have dark red, rustic plumage, yellow skin, and bright red-orange eyes. They can have either a single or rose comb.
- *Care Needs*: They require roughly 4 square feet of coop space per bird and prefer to roam, but adapt well to confinement.
