The second day of the CASiyahan Festival 2026, March 24, 2026, was filled with fun, excitement, and cultural appreciation through various Laro ng Lahi or traditional Filipino games.

Participants actively joined classic games such as Patintero, Chinese Garter, Centipede Race, and Tug of War, bringing back childhood memories and encouraging friendly competition. Other games like Sack Race, Dragon’s Tail, and Kadang-kadang added more thrill and laughter as students showcased their agility, balance, and coordination. The inclusion of Hangul also brought a unique twist to the activities, making the event more diverse and engaging.

The Laro ng Lahi not only entertained everyone but also strengthened camaraderie and cooperation among participants. It reminded students of the value of traditional games in building strong relationships and a sense of cultural identity.

The CASiyahan Festival 2026, held on March 23–25, 2026, celebrated unity, talent, and excellence with the theme " Tahanan ng Tagumpay: Isang Balangkas ng Makabayani at Natatanging Kahusayan.”

The event started with a lively grand parade led by different portrayals of superheroes from the different programs namely Gagamboy and Dragona (ABPS), Captain Barbel and Darna (BSDC), Enteng and Faye (BSP), Lastikman and Kristala (BSSW), Agilus and Alwina (BSTM). This was followed by the opening program, where Sir Donato O. Abaya, EdD, CAS Dean, delivered the opening remarks, warmly welcoming everyone. An inspiring message was then given by Mr. Nathaniel F. Dimog, Campus Executive Director of Lamut Campus, encouraging students to strive for excellence and unity.

The program continued with exciting activities such as the Mascot Competition, Bleacher/Bench Cheering, and Fitness Dance, where students showcased their creativity, teamwork, and school spirit.

In the afternoon, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, Highlighting the spirit of camaraderie and support is the Search for Mr. & Ms. CAS 2026. The candidates confidently presented their talents, intelligence, and charm, representing the true spirit of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Team 3 Dominates First DevCom Day Communication Media and Indigenous Competitions

The event showcased students’ talents, creativity, and appreciation of culture through various communication media and indigenous games competitions.

Different teams demonstrated outstanding performance. In the Vocal Solo Competition, Team 4 secured first place, followed by Team 3, Team 5, and Team 1. The Duet Competition was dominated by Team 5, with Team 2 placing second, Team 3 third, and Team 4 fourth. Meanwhile, Team 3 led the Fitness Dance Competition, with Team 1, Team 4, and Team 2 completing the rankings.

For the Photography Category, Team 2 submitted the highest number of entries with six photos, followed by Team 1 with five, Team 3 with four, and Team 4 with one entry. In Videography, Team 1 emerged as champion, followed by Team 3, Team 4, and Team 2.

The Trailer Parody Competition highlighted students’ creativity, storytelling, acting skills, with Team 3 winning first place. Team 1 placed second, Team 4 third, and Team 2 fourth.

Several special awards were also given during the parody competition. Marlon Baldo received the Extra Service Award, while Jovanni Ponchopnan was recognized as Scene Stealer. Norman De Leon was awarded Best Supporting Character. Dan Guyuchan and Fely Butale were named Leading Man and Leading Lady, respectively. Faith Dumangeng earned Best Actress, and Jimmy Garcia was recognized as Best Actor. Team 3 dominated most technical awards, including Best Production, Best Editing, Best in Lip Sync, YFLF, Ctrl C Ctrl V, and Best in Aesthetic. Meanwhile, Team 4 received the Most Engagement Award.

The celebration also featured indigenous games, promoting cultural appreciation and teamwork. In Guyyudan, Team 2 (male category) and Team 4 (female category) emerged as champions. For Hanngul, Team 4 (male) and Team 1 (female) took first place. In Bangunan (male category), Team 2 led the competition. In Hinukting, Team 3 dominated both male and female categories.

At the end of the event, Team 3 was declared the Overall Champion, followed by Team 1 as first runner-up, Team 2 as second runner-up, and Team 4 in third place.

The successful conduct of the DevCom Day highlighted the importance of communication, collaboration, and cultural identity, reinforcing the students’ skills and holistic development beyond the classroom.

Development Communication Program Celebrates Its Inaugural DevCom Day

The Bachelor of Science in Development Communication successfully held its first DevCom Day celebration on March 18, 2026, with the theme “DevCom in Lens: People, Process, Progress.” The theme highlights the concept of the “lens” not only as a photographic tool but also as a medium of communication—used to listen to people, showcase collaborative processes, and drive progress that improves lives.

The program commenced with an invocation, followed by the singing of the national anthem and the IFSU Hymn. Setting a welcoming tone for the event, Dr. Marah Joy A. Nanglegan, Program Chairperson, commended the organizers for their initiatives and efforts in making the activity possible.

In her message, Dr. Nanglegan emphasized the importance of Development Communication as a field of study and encouraged students to value the course they have chosen. She underscored that communication goes beyond simply delivering messages, stressing that its true purpose is to help improve the lives of the people being communicated with. “DevCom is not just to inform; it is communication with a heart and accountability. When you communicate, something happens, and that something should be for the better,” she shared. In her concluding remarks, she inspired students to strive for excellence while enjoying their participation in the various activities.

Following the opening program, participants competed in a range of events, including singing and fitness contests, as well as communication media competitions such as videography, photography, and trailer parody. Indigenous games such as Guyyudan and Hanngul were also conducted, promoting cultural appreciation and teamwork.
The day-long celebration concluded with a film showing and an awarding ceremony.

The BS Development Communication program is a pioneer offering under the College of Arts and Sciences. It was first introduced in 2023 and is expected to produce its first batch of graduates in 2027.

College of Arts and Sciences Convenes Stakeholders for the Alignment of Research and Extension Agendas

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) recently hosted "Convergence," on March 16, 2026 at Heritage Convention Hall. A strategic stakeholders' consultation designed to aligned the college and program-based research and extension agendas to better serve the community.

The morning session opened with a welcome from Dr. Donato Abaya, College Dean, who emphasized that university initiatives must be "relevant, inclusive, and impactful." This sentiment was echoed by Nathaniel F. Dimog-Compus Executive Director, who reminded participants that research and extension gaps must originate from the community. He concluded with a guiding principle for the college: “We work with the people; we work for them.”

To ensure alignment with broader development targets, several university officials presented key institutional frameworks:

Dr. Marah Joy A. Nanglegan (University Director) presented the international and regional extension agendas, noting that the primary goal remains the improvement of community life.

Ms. Honeylette Baloc, representing University Research Director Dr. Florence N. Bahni, detailed existing research benchmarks.

Mr. Emmanuel Pimentel and Mr. Aiken Dale K. Magaya presented the current College Research and Extension agendas, respectively.

The afternoon session transitioned into a technical workshop where program chairpersons, faculty members, and students presented their research and extension proposals. These documents underwent a rigorous review by an evaluation team led by Dr. Abaya. The constructive critiques focused on enhancing the feasibility and community-centric nature of the projects.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Abaya applauded the presenters for their innovation and urged faculty and students to swiftly incorporate the suggestions for final submission.

IFSU-Lamut Conducts Fire and Bomb Threat Safety Seminar
LAMUT, IFSU — In a move to transition from reactive to proactive safety responders, second-year Development Communication students joined the Fire Drill and Bomb Threat Awareness seminar at the IFSU-Lamut Campus on March 12, 2026.

The campus-wide safety exercise commenced with a simulated emergency. As the sirens resound, students and university personnel evacuated buildings and gathered at the campus oval, which served as the designated evacuation area.

Following the drill, personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police, and Lamut Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (Lamut-MDRRMO) conducted a briefing on fire rescue and emergency protocols. This following a hands-on workshop at the grounds, where the University Response Team and other participants participated the actual simulation on the proper operation of fire extinguishers and techniques for fire suppression.

The second session of the program was held at the Luis Hora Gymnasium. FO1 Willer Bulintao of the BFP led the fire safety discussion, building on the practical drills by detailing prevention strategies and building codes. The focus then shifted to public security, spearheaded by officers from the Ifugao Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Canine Unit.

Bomb Threat Awareness and IED Education

PSSg Jessica V. Tayaban highlighted the legal ramifications of safety, specifically discussing applicable Philippine laws regarding explosives and ammunition.
The seminar also introduced the A.B.K.D. framework—“Awareness of Bombs that Kill and Destroy properties.” PMsg Richard S. Dauz, who facilitated this segment, emphasized that vigilance and early detection are the most effective tools in neutralizing potential threats before they escalate.

To provide a comprehensive understanding of the risks, PCpl Newton B. Awis concluded the session with a technical presentation on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The said event is part of the university's ongoing initiative to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure a secure learning environment and campus safety for all stakeholders.//BSDC 2
