In 1935, a Japanese street vendor in Osaka named Tomekichi Endo cooked the first ever batch of Takoyaki in history. It was inspired by ‘Akashiyaki’ which is a small round dumpling from the city of Akashi, made of an egg-rich batter and Octopus. Tomekichi liked it so much that he started selling it in the streets until it became popular in the Kansai region first. But as you all know, Takoyaki is the “sandwich” of Japan, right? We’re not lying when we say it’s delicious AF! It later spread to the Kantō region, then across Japan, and next think you know it’s now here in the Philippines (which is just one PM away from you anyway!) 😉

At present and for us, Takoyaki is diced, whole, or half octopus, and it could also be ham & cheese inside a round ball of dough (wheat flour mixed with eggs and flavored with dashi soup) The umami REALLY comes out when the takoyaki is eaten piping hot, and this, combined with its pleasant aroma, makes it an addictive snack. But for Tōri Takoyaki, we can assure you that the taste is still as phenomenal as hot even when it cools down 🐙🥢
