LOVIE’S CHOICE Pickled Green Papaya: Sharing Mother’s Love to the World
Every time our mother, Ma. Cristina Toledo, prepared and served pickled green papaya or “atsara”, my father, I and my other siblings become so excited because we are going to taste such delicious and mouth-watering pickle again. It is best served as a side dish for fried or grilled foods such as pork or chicken BBQ, or fried pork, fish or sea foods. We even eat it as dessert.
Every time there’s an occasion or celebration within our (extended) family or even our community, my relatives and other people always seek my mother to prepare pickled green papaya for them. Like us, they really like her serving.
When I got a girlfriend, that dish becomes her and her family’s favorite. It becomes an instant hit to her friends and her mother’s friends.
Because of that, I got really interested with it - I want to commercialize it so that the world can experience my mother’s servings too. We decided to venture into a small-scale production of pickled green papaya. That’s the time LOVIE’S CHOICE was born as a brand.
