Itโ€™s harvest time!๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿ…

Visited the greenhouse early in the morning to check the crops planted after prolonged rains and gusty winds due to habagat season and surprised to see that some vegetables are now ready for harvest.

Looking forward for the bountiful harvest and continued supply of off-season vegetables.๐Ÿ’š

BLESSING OF COMMERCIAL TUNA FRP BOAT OF UFALA!๐Ÿ’ฆโ›ด๏ธ๐ŸŸ

At last, the long wait is over. After all the challenges and the sacrifices this Association had been hurdled, UFALA is now ready to sail on.

A blessing ceremony was held to invoke Divine protection for all the crews and fishermen aboard the 62footer Commercial Tuna Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Boats as they embark on its full operation.

Our Congratulations and warm wishes for UFALA (United Fisherfolks Association of Libertad, Antique)! May the Almighty God guide them safely, protect them from the dangers of the sea, grant them a bountiful catch and bring them safe back to their families.

The realization of this project was made possible through the strong partnership of the LGU, BFAR 6, DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Project and of course the association themselves.

Godspeed UFALA! May the force be with you!๐Ÿ™

Mga Barayting Angkop sa El Nino!๐ŸŒพ

BARAYTING paaga na, matibay pa๐ŸŒพโ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿ“ข DA ADVISORY FOR EL NIร‘O ALERT

Based on the latest projections of the DOST-PAGASA, there is a 79% probability that El Niรฑo is likely to emerge by June-August 2026 and is likely to persist until early 2027. This led to the issuance of an El Niรฑo Alert.

El Niรฑo can result in above normal temperatures and lesser rainfall. Consequently, it increases the risk of droughts and dry spells in many areas due to drier conditions. Conversely, it may bring above-normal rainfall during the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) season.

This phenomenon is expected to bring several adverse effects in the agri-fishery sector such as reduced production leading to income losses for farmers and fisherfolk. In addition, this may even result to increase in prices of basic goods that can result to food shortages and disruption of the food supply chain.

The Department of Agriculture has been undertaking interventions across different thematic areas as preparedness measures for El Niรฑo such as prepositioning of agricultural and fishery inputs, assessment of the field situation, conduct of information campaigns, among others. Moreover, the Department coordinates with concerned offices and agencies for monitoring of effects and possible interventions.

ADVISORIES FOR FARMERS AND FISHERFOLK

Farmers and fisherfolk are encouraged to practice the following measures for each commodity to minimize agricultural damage and losses, as applicable.

Crops
- Adjust the cropping calendar
- Apply water-saving methods (rainwater harvesting, AWD, LDIS)
- Use drought-tolerant and early-maturing seeds
- Plant short-gestation crops (mung bean, peanut, soybean)
- Practice crop rotation and use organic fertilizers
- Secure crop insurance from PCIC

Livestock
- Conduct vaccination and veterinary consultations
- Provide proper housing and transport
- Ensure clean water and shaded areas
- Plant drought-resistant forage
- Secure livestock insurance from PCIC

Fisheries
- Monitor water quality and fish stock
- Ensure proper feed and water management
- Provide shade in exposed areas
- Use aerators and spray pipes
- Inspect ponds and protect dikes from leaks and burrowing animals

LGU Libertad Celebrates Month of the Ocean๐Ÿ“Œ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽฃ

LGU Libertad through the Municipal Agriculture Office and MENRO facilitated a Coastal Clean up at Barangay Union on May 15 as part of the Ocean Month Celebration. This activity aims to strengthen community action as various partners from CENRO Culasi, Rare Philippines, the Fishforever Savings Club from Barangay Union, Triskelion Fraternity, L-Town Anglers Association actively took part in cleaning up the coastlines. MFARMC, Barangay Council and SKs also join in this activity.

After the clean-up drive, MAO also facilitated a โ€œ Pamunit sa Hunasanโ€ an angling competition for those fishing enthusiasts. This is an innovative way to strengthen marine conservation and public awareness on the vital importance of the coastal ecosystems and marine biodiversity. Additionally, it also aims to promote responsible fishing behaviors since, only registered fisherfolks are eligible to join in the competition and allowed to fish outside the Marine Protected Area only.

There is also a separate category for the Traditional Hook and Line Fishing. Fishers who bagged the biggest and smallest single catch, longest and highest total catch received exciting prizes such as rod and reel, lures, nylon and hooks.

May this celebration serves as a call for sustained community participation to protect marine resources and ecosystems.๐Ÿฉต

Our appreciation to all who participated in this worthwhile activity! Padayon! ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™
