The legendary "226" or Possum 226 Sweater trace back to the renowned Filipino gamefowl breeder Rafael “Nene” Abello from Bacolod, Negros Occidental. Originating from US breeder Carol Nesmith of Blackwater Farm, the bloodline became famous in the Philippines after a wingband 226 broodc**k nicked exceptionally well with Ray Alexander Roundheads, dominating major derbies in the early 1990s.

Origins and Connection to Carol NesmithThe US Source:
Nene Abello acquired elite Sweater lines from Carol Nesmith, whose birds mixed classic Sweaters with Stuart/Eugene Brown chicken genetics.

The Accidental Shipment:
A key foundational brood c**k was accidentally shipped to Mexico and could not be retrieved.

Rebuilding the Line:
Nesmith went back to the source for a full brother and single-mated them with pure Sweater hens to preserve and lock in the winning traits.

Characteristics of Possum 226Fighting Style:
Known for an aggressive swarming offense, incredible speed, heavy plumage, and superior cutting ability.

Longevity:
Nene Abello famously managed and bred the core bloodline for over a decade, maintaining strict selection standards where only proven winners stayed in the breeding yard.

MelSim's (Mel Sims) refers to the legendary gamefowl bloodlines developed by the renowned American breeder Mel Sims. Famous for his selective breeding of strains like Hatch, Grey, Red, and Kelso, Sims became a household name among global c**kfighters, particularly in the Philippines, after visiting and competing in derbies during the 1990s.

Origins and Influences
Early Beginnings:
Sims was introduced to poultry breeding and c**kfighting at a young age by a Filipino neighbor in the United States who sold him his first chicken for $5.

Core Bloodlines:
Unlike breeders who mixed many lines, Sims strictly maintained only four primary foundational families on his farm: Hatch, Grey, Red, and Kelso (acquired from fellow legend Duke Hulsey).

Major Achievements:
He won prominent titles including the Intercontinental Derby (Mexico vs. USA), earned the Golden Rooster Trophy, and was named Cocker of the Year in America.

The MelSim's Strains
MelSim's Black:
Noted for deep dark or black plumage, distinct dark eyes (often described as having an "eyeliner" look), fast-striking capability, and aggressive agility.

MelSim's Grey:
Known for silver/white hackles, high-breaking fighting styles, fast cutting action, and strong genetic prepotency.

MelSim's Hatch:
Highly prized for sturdiness and powerful performance in the c**kpit arena.

Legacy in the PhilippinesSims traveled to the Philippines to join high-profile events like the World Slasher Cup in the 1990s. Deeply appreciative of Filipino culture and local breeders, he shared and traded his breeding materials. Decades later, local breeders continue to preserve, cross, and highly value MelSim’s lines for their fighting consistency and competitive pedigree.

The legendary Lemon 84 gamefowl bloodline was created in 1967 by prominent Filipino breeder Rafael "Paeng" Araneta. He named the strain after receiving a unique pea-combed lemon-hackled rooster with leg band number 84 from American breeder Duke Hulsey, which Araneta then carefully bred and refined in the Philippines.

Origin and Development
The Import (1967): Paeng Araneta visited Duke Hulsey's Amicizia Farm in Louisiana and shipped a distinct lemon-colored, pea-combed c**k back to Manila. People kept asking for the bird's name, prompting Araneta to call it "Lemon 84" based on its leg band.

Line Breeding: Araneta bred the original 84 c**k to lemon hens from earlier stock. He utilized targeted father-daughter and brother-sister matings over successive generations to fix traits.

Genetic Variations: Continued selection eventually produced traits like green legs and yellow legs, alongside pea combs or straight combs.

Characteristics and LegacyFighting Style:
Known as medium-stationed, smart, fast-attacking birds featuring precise timing and exceptional cutting power.Industry Impact: It became a foundational strain in Negros Island and Bacolod, frequently crossed with Kelso, Albani, or Sweater lines.

Enduring Popularity: Decades later, Lemon 84 remains one of the most respected and resilient classic bloodlines in Philippine c**kfighting history.
