Is ube the new matcha?

Once a beloved Filipino staple, ube has found fans around the world for its vibrant color and distinct flavor. But beyond the trendy drinks and eye-catching desserts is a humble root crop with a rich history, deep cultural significance, and more uses than most people realize.

So, how well do you really know ube? 💜

A lot of “ube” starts in a lab. Ours starts in Philippine soil.

Real Philippine ube should not need to hide behind artificial flavoring or food dye. The color, the story, and the identity should come from the crop itself.

At Philippine Ube Company, we work with real ube, grown in the Philippines, with a focus on origin, consistency, and respect for the crop behind the flavor.

Read the label. Know where your ube comes from.

The Philippines gave the world ube.

For generations, ube has been grown, shared, and carried through Filipino land, food, and memory.

As it reaches more people around the world, its origin matters more than ever.

Philippine Ube Co. exists to honor where ube comes from and help protect the agricultural heritage behind it.

Rooted in our land. Committed to our future.

The world has discovered ube.

That’s worth celebrating.

What concerns me is who is benefiting from that success.

Too often, the value leaves the Philippines long before the product reaches a cafe, bakery, or supermarket overseas. Farmers receive the smallest share, while foreign intermediaries and brands capture most of the margin.

This isn’t about blaming international businesses. Global demand is a good thing.

It’s about asking a better question:

How do we build a global ube industry where more value stays with Filipino farmers and Filipino businesses?

That’s why we started Philippine Ube Company.

Not to follow a trend, but to help build a more transparent, traceable supply chain, one that connects buyers directly with the country that introduced ube to the world.

Because authentic ube deserves an authentic connection to the Philippines.

What do you think? Is the global ube industry doing enough to support its country of origin?

Every partnership starts with trust.

Over the past year, we've had the privilege of speaking with food manufacturers, retailers, beverage brands, distributors, and innovators from around the world.

What stands out isn't just the interest in Philippine ube.

It's the conversations around authenticity.

Consistency.

Traceability.

And the opportunity to build a stronger future for one of the Philippines' most iconic crops.

Thank you to every company that has taken the time to test our products, challenge our thinking, and believe in our mission.

We're just getting started.

Ube is not sweet potato.

Ube is Dioscorea alata.
Sweet potato is Ipomoea batatas.

Purple sweet potato is often used as a substitute because it can be easier to source at scale.

But it is not the same crop, and it does not taste the same.

Different plant. Different texture. Different flavor.

If it is sweet potato, call it sweet potato.
If it is ube, call it ube.

Freshly planted rows of authentic Philippine Ube. This is from one of our Philippines Ube operated farm in Padre Garcia, Batangas with Mt Malarayat behind them. Most of the “ube” the world eats never touched soil like this. Ours starts here.
