There are quotes we read and remember because they came from great writers, thinkers, and people who changed the world.

And then there are words we say without realizing that, months or years later, they might mean something to someone else.

I was reminded of this when I came across a collection of quotable quotes that included names like St. Francis of Assisi, Atticus, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Eleanor Roosevelt, and other notable writers and thinkers.

It brought me back to something that happened years ago.

I was invited to be one of the speakers at an event attended by at least 600 college juniors and seniors. The event was created to inspire the next generation of Filipinos by showcasing success stories from different fields—culinary, arts, entrepreneurship, and many others—and, most importantly, to encourage young Filipinos to be proud of who they are and what they can become.

Among the speakers were SC Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno , Maria Reza, and Nico Bolzico, together with many other inspiring Filipinos.

I shared my own journey.

Not the story of someone who grew up knowing she would one day be on a stage, or someone who had always dreamed of becoming a culinary personality.

Quite the opposite.

I was a simple, shy mother who never imagined that one day I would be standing in front of hundreds of young Filipinos, showing the world that our humble Filipino lechon could take center stage.

And somehow, that journey gave me something even more meaningful—a platform that I could use to help others.

I shared how being known as the Lechon Diva opened doors for me, but that those doors meant so much more when I could use them to help Filipinos who needed a hand.

I also spoke about Project Wheelchair Philippines, where we give wheelchairs to people who cannot afford to buy one.

This cause is deeply personal to me because of my daughter Lauren, who was wheelchair-bound all her life.

What touched me most that day wasn’t the number of photographs the students took with the speakers.

It was what happened a few months later.

Rainy mornings like this make me remember one of the most fun breakfasts I’ve ever hosted… Ch*****ne & Lechon Breakfast! 🤗🥂🐽

And this was no ordinary lechon — it was a special breakfast lechon stuffed with tocino fried rice and salted egg yolk! 🤤🐽 Because why should lechon only be for lunch or dinner? Diba ! 😂
