The American author John Shedd once said, "Ships are safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for." I couldn't agree more.

We're all safe in our comfort zones and not taking any chances, but if you want to get to where you want to go, that's hardly the choice you should be taking, right?

One thing we developed over time is the ability to get hurt after social rejection. Our thoughts influence our feelings, and our feelings affect our behaviors.

In essence, we are ruled by fear when we adjust our decisions according to other people. Where were the days when people would do things regardless of what other people thought? That was us when we were kids, right? Wasn't that the most fun we've had in our lives?

The advice is not to take risks for their own sake; it's about taking necessary risks you won't regret as much as if you had lived your life to your final days and then asked yourself the "what if...?" question.

Your heart is your North Star, and the one person you'll have for life is yourself. Why not work towards a life that you won't regret?

Taking risks is frightening. It implies loss, which is why we're scared of change. But as with most things, sometimes we just have to surrender ourselves to God. We have to close our eyes and jump in with both feet. Don't take risks that aren't backed by a solid gut feeling or that lack logic.

If we aren't willing to go too far, naturally, we'll never get far. There's a French proverb that goes like this: "Reculer pour mieux sauter." What this means is to take a step back to take a giant leap forward.

Don't just take risks -- take calculated risks. Would you rather be on your deathbed regretting the things you haven't done that you realized you could've done, or die having lived a life fulfilled, leaving no stones unturned?
