• Fruit quality aligned with premium/export buyers.. the dark, pebbled skin, creamy high-oil flesh, and thick skin that peels cleanly match what export and premium local buyers (hotels, cafés, processors) now expect, similar to California Hass.
• Early bearing (“high early yields”) shortens the payback period… important given the 4–5 years to first commercial harvest in the Philippines.
• Steady & high yields with less alternate bearing.. Compared with Hass and many local types, Joya GEM shows low alternate bearing . Regular Bearing , is valuable where cash flow and contract supply matter.
• Compact, upright trees → better for dense planting and typhoon-prone areas
GEM’s columnar habit suits higher-density layouts (more trees/ha) and is easier to manage under frequent pruning and wind events common in the Philippines.
• Good post-harvest/shipping performance supports longer hauls from Mindanao/Visayas to Manila ports or airports.
• Later season than Hass → extends the Philippine harvest window.
• Strong on-tree holding gives flexibility to time harvest around price spikes, holidays, or export windows. — at Lipa Batangas.
