​Revolutions require more than brave fighters; they require resources. Roman Ongpin, a prominent Chinese-Filipino (Mestizo de Sangley) businessman in Binondo, used his successful art supply store as a front to secretly fund the Katipunan. Ongpin donated huge sums of money, food, and medical supplies to Bonifacio’s men. When Spanish authorities grew suspicious and arrested him, Ongpin never confessed, quietly enduring imprisonment to protect the revolutionary network.

Kaalaman Monday: The 21-year-old general who liberated the entire North.

​When we think of young commanders, we often think of Gregorio del Pilar. But General Manuel Tinio was only 21 years old when Andrés Bonifacio commissioned him as a officer in the Katipunan. Born in Nueva Ecija, Tinio was tasked with organizing the revolutionary forces in Northern Luzon. Known as the "Brigada Tinio," his troops successfully liberated the Ilocos region from colonial control, winning over the locals through strict discipline and respect for the communities they passed through.
