Hoppiepolla Lifestyle The world is big, and life is short. Explore. Life is all about continuous aspiration. Fear not to create something out of bliss, and do it at it’s finest.

Get inspired, think out of the box and wander. Because every day has something to offer, to dream and to discover.. This is my place for all the spur-of-the-moment thoughts and whims with my love of food, cooking, travel, fashion, crafts and all that can get away with art.

The Spanish and American influences taught us Filipinos to associate large houses with social status — the bigger the house, the wealthier you’re perceived to be. It is what I got used to believing, until I first visited Japan.

In Japan, you would see houses this small owned by very rich people. That’s when my perspective shifted - that living large doesn’t always mean living to your optimum. It is actually with living less and enjoying every nook and cranny of your house that makes you feel full. That feeling of getting the most out of a tiny space. That Japanese way of thinking that makes one more humbling, in simplicity and in minimalism.

For me, this is what truly captures the feeling of Tokyo. Laundry, drying in the warm sun above the street; vibrant hydrangeas and a bicycle parked just so. It's not about grand excitement, but the quiet rhythm of life, and in these ordinary scenes – these small details – you find a genuine sense of Japan, its subtle charm and careful way of doing things.
