500 Bags of processed chicken manure, all the way from San Jose, Batangas, arrived today in the farm. We will apply this on our soils before we plant the honeydew and papaya seedlings.

Very expensive stuff because you need to apply an enormous volume per hectare of this organic product to keep our soils healthy.

Sustainability is not cheap, but it is a necessary process in farming. You cannot succeed long term if you skip this practice.

The plus is, it is what brings out the "YUMMINESS" in our produce.

Day 4 - Outside the Kulambo

We brought out our honeydew seedings from the greenhouse nursery to get some direct sun light. We will also spray biostimulants later to increase the vigor of this batch before planting.

As they grow, we have completed installing the plastic mulch on the planting beds and started to make the planting holes.

We still need to install the plastic tunneling.

HONEYDEW PRODUCTION

Our Jadelady Honeydew seedlings are 2 days old. We sowed them last Saturday - June 6.

Here, our farmhand Agusto Apino is assisting the seedlings by taking out the seed coat. If the seed coat does not fall off naturally after a day or two, it can sometimes restrict the cotyledons from opening. In that case, growers may carefully moisten it and gently remove it, but only if it is firmly stuck and the seedling is healthy enough.

Planting day is scheduled on June 16.

LOOK AT THE MESS WE DID

We have topped pruned Block 3.2. We had to stop pruning the other blocks because the rains have started to come in.

After pruning the tops the bigger work of cutting the branches and clearing the area in between rows for our machines to pass is the next work.

Still plenty of work ahead. But the results are all worth all this work.

PAPAYA UPDATE

We started land preparation for the planting of papaya in our new area in the farm. Developing a new area is a lot of work. We need to plow the fields, remove the rocks ( plenty of rocks some of them as big as your table ), make raised beds, and put in the irrigation system before we can even start to plant.

It takes 7 months from planting until the 1st harvest.

We target to plant by June 15, 2026. Hence 1st harvest is around January 2027.

But this time we will work hard that it will always be available for the years to come.

Still a long ways but we will share with you the progress.

END OF MANGO HARVEST SEASON

We completed our last harvest last Saturday, May 17, and we are grateful to share that all boxes were fully taken up by our customers and dealers.

We still have a few mixed boxes arriving tomorrow. These are mangoes that were unable to fit in our delivery truck during the last dispatch. For those interested in these remaining boxes, please contact Melody at 09206133691.
