All for the Love of Pork
KARNE is a local brand manufacturing Uniquely Pinoy Snacks. The owner, Nino Andrelix Navarro, started the bright idea of turning the local favorite cuisine, Lechon Kawali, into a home-made snack in the year 2017. Just like a normal Filipino family, it was part of his family’s tradition to feast on pork especially Lechon Kawali. He grew up eating this savory slab of pork, cured to perfection, by his father and in every occasion Lechon Kawali was always the highlight on his family’s table.
Last 2017, he gave up employment and turned his passion for food to a full time business. He rented a small space in Fairview Terraces to sell rice meals with Lechon Kawali as the main course. He also introduced a thinly sliced version of lechon kawali, which he coined “Litson Kawali Chips” as an alternative snack to the mall goers. After many weeks, the Litson Kawali Chips became a hit to regular clients, which gave Nino the idea to make it a certified chichirya.
📷After many months of trial and error, and with the help of a certified nutritionist and food tech, the Litson Kawali Chips was launched to the market in a ready to eat resealable foil pack. It has six delicious variants including Litson Kawali Chips in Salted Egg, Chili BBQ, Sour Cream and Onion and the favorite of ketogenic practitioners- the Litson Kawali Chips in Original, Garlic and Roasted Chili. Last year, Karne also added the 3-min LKC variant which is pre-cured lechon kawali slices that can be cooked fresh or toasted in 3 minutes.
Because of Karne’s innovation of turning lechon kawali into a unique pinoy snack, It has been featured twice in GMA’s Unang Hirit. Vlogs and Articles about the product has also been visible in social media and it continues to be a hit in bazaars all over the Philippines and the online shopping community.
