Villar Farm Schools help cultivate modern Filipino farmers

To date, there are 2,367 accredited farm schools all over the country that serve as learning sites for farmers and plant enthusiasts who are given the opportunity to train for free on the ways of modern farming. Included in this roster are four farm schools operated by the Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Vi

llar SIPAG). Cynthia Villar, the Villar SIPAG Farm Schools have welcomed thousands of trainees and hosted hundreds of training sessions on agriculture-related courses for free. The other farm schools in the country also offer training courses with the support of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

“Our farm schools have a special role in our objective to make our farmers and fisherfolk competitive and profitable through training programs that will help them produce more and earn more with the help of modern technology,” Villar said. The first Villar SIPAG Farm School opened in September 2015. It is located in a 4 hectare lot within the boundary of Las Piñas City and Bacoor City, and is situated beside the Molino Dam. The second farm school which opened in October 2016, sits in a 4-hectare land in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. Both schools have training areas, dormitories, farm houses and kitchen areas. Also featured are vermi- composting facilities, kitchen waste composting facilities, greenhouse, spaces for livestock production and aquaculture and a cacao plantation under coconut trees.

F/Sen. Cynthia A. Villar gave her inspirational message for the participants of Training on Freshwater Species Hatchery Management for the Farm Technicians, Farm Managers, and Operators from the Luzon Region, which was held at BFAR-NFTC, CLSU Compound, Science City of Munoz Nueva Ecija.

This training was conducted in partnership with BFAR 3 and BFAR-NFTC that aims to strengthen the capabilities and learning of Hatchery Management for Freshwater Species. This training catered 38 participants from Regions 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Winners of the 9th Villar Foundation Awards on Youth Poverty Reduction Challenge with Senator Camille Villar and F/Sen Cynthia Villar who is also the managing director of the Foundation.
1. NCR - Molave Youth Organization, a community based organization from Parang, Marikina.
2. R1 - Santo Domingo Integrated School 4H Club. Quirino, Isabela. A School- based organization that is dedicated in helping young people to grow, lead and make a difference.
3. R3 - Kabataang Boluntir Inc., Calumpit, Bulacan . Promotes civic participation and volunteerism.
4. R4A - Youth First NGO, San Rafael, Noveleta, Cavite conducts weekly cleanup drives within the community, Youth Olympics, Basketball (boys) & Volleyball (girls) League to build friendship, active healthy lifestyle and discipline among youth people;
5. R4A - Angat Kabataan, San Pedro City, Laguna. This is a youth-led, non-profit and non-government organization that aims to empower the youth through volunteerism and leadership take active part in the community such as Project Kalinga a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support program to train and the establish a 𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 for Mental Health Program in collaboration with DOH, and the Provincial Government of Laguna. Project Brotsa, a 4 week art classes for kids 50 at a time to bring out their creativity, talent and love for arts.
6. Keen and Aspiring Youth Agripreneurs Association ( ), of Laurel, Batangas. This organization’s purpose is youth empowerment, by supporting production and agripreneurship, and help save the environment. A Member with capability to raise chickens is supported by the organization for starting capital.
7. R5 - Canaman Young Leaders for Empowerment Organization ( ) of Canaman, Camarines Sur. Founded on February 19, 2024, the group advocates healthy living, education development , environmental protection , disaster risk management and youth empowerment.
8. NIR - Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. , or from Himamaylan, Negros Occidental is a nonprofit and non government organization for the youth collaborating towards addressing concerns and issues in the community and building hope for the children such as PAGbASA: May Pag-asa sa Pagbasa where learners, volunteer teachers, community leaders, and education advocates gather for a common goal of nurturing a culture of reading and learning among children.
9. R9 - Anibongan 4H Rabbit Farm Workers Association or from Purok 4 , Maco Davao de Oro. With their Project maintains their active partnership with their LGU, government agencies, cooperatives and private partners to support their multiple community enterprises, rabbit production and management, rabbit meat processing, new products for marketability, coconut innovative products and conducts community clean up drives and youth development sessions.

Special Awardees
1. Christ the King Youth Organization, CTK Subdivision, Talon 4, Las Piñas, conducts sports events, academic support activities and youth camps, community clean up drives, Zumba and fitness events and Leadership training.
2. ASEZ Church of God University Students Volunteer Group - is promoting young people’s community participation through environmental education and clean up drives. Their initiatives include plastic reduction, marine and coastal protection, climate education, and community engagement programs.
