The MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) joins the global observance of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.
The commemoration, spearheaded by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, is observed annually every 17 June. It is a United Nations initiative that aims to raise awareness of land degradation and drought, while mobilizing action to protect and restore healthy land. This year's theme, “Rangelands: Recognize. Respect. Restore.,” highlights the central role of the world’s rangelands in climate resilience, food and water security, biodiversity conservation, and the cultural identity of pastoralist and Indigenous communities.
Be part of the solution.
Saving water plays an important role in preventing desertification. Effective water conservation helps land retain moisture, supports ecosystems, and promotes healthier soils.
Simple practices:
💧 Harvest rainwater: collecting rainwater helps reduce water scarcity and makes better use of available water resources.
💧 Protect watersheds: healthy watersheds support clean water supply and biodiversity; activities like reforestation and soil conservation help improve water quality and availability.
💧 Reduce the use of single-use plastics: choosing reusable items helps reduce water use in manufacturing and minimizes pollution in rivers, lakes, and oceans.
SAVE WATER. RESTORE LAND.
Water is not infinite. Let us do everything we can to conserve it.
