What began as a simple act of hope during the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into one of the most inspiring cooperative success stories in CALABARZON.
In 2020, 16 tricycle drivers and operators in Barangay Litlit, Silang, Cavite lost their primary source of income due to the pandemic. Rather than giving up, they embraced a new opportunity after receiving two native pigs from the Municipal Agriculture Office. Those two pigs became the foundation of what is now the Silang Livestock Agriculture Cooperative (SLAC)—a cooperative dedicated to improving lives through livestock production, innovation, and the power of cooperation.
Their first enterprise was producing native lechon, earning the trust of customers through quality products while providing sustainable livelihoods for cooperative members. With continuous learning, government support, and unwavering determination, SLAC transformed from a backyard swine operation into a recognized model for livestock development in the country.
