In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, while much of the world was standing still, something was beginning to grow in Sitio 2, Brgy. Bagbago, Solsona, Ilocos Norte. In December 2020, VEA Eco Farm was born—not as a business, but as a small, personal fish farming project. But what started as a humble idea soon took root and blossomed into a thriving agricultural enterprise, thanks to the vision and determination of its founder, Marvin Xavier Nicolas Vea.

Marvin started the farm during uncertain times, driven by a desire to provide for his family and reconnect with his agricultural roots. He named the farm VEA not only as a tribute to his family name, but also as a symbol of his Vision for Eco-friendly Agriculture—a modern, sustainable, and community-centered approach to farming.

A major turning point came when Marvin joined the Department of Agriculture’s Kabataang Agribiz: Young Farmers Challenge Fund in 2021. His dedication and innovative approach earned VEA Eco Farm recognition as a Provincial Awardee and Regional Winner, setting the stage for rapid growth and deeper community impact. To further strengthen his entrepreneurial skills and business knowledge, Marvin also participated in the Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) Program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Through KMME, he gained valuable mentorship in areas like marketing, operations, financial management, and business planning. The program empowered him to approach the farm not just as a passion project, but as a sustainable enterprise. With renewed clarity and confidence, Marvin applied these learnings to improve the farm’s systems, expand product offerings, and strengthen customer engagement.

For Marvin, KMME didn’t just teach him how to run a business — it gave him the mindset, tools, and support to thrive. “The KMME Program helped me see my farm as more than a dream. It helped me build it into something that can grow, sustain, and inspire,” he shared.

Under Marvin's leadership and with the support of government programs like KMME, VEA Eco Farm grew into a fully integrated agricultural operation. Today, it produces high-value crops, nutritious value-added products, and serves as a Certified Learning Site for Agriculture under the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI). Marvin’s mission is not just to grow food—but to grow knowledge, interest, and pride in sustainable farming.

The journey wasn’t easy. Marvin faced financial limitations, extreme weather, and the everyday unpredictability of farming. But through every obstacle, he persevered. “I chose to persist,” he says, “because what I was building wasn’t just for me—it was for my family, my community, and the future of agriculture.”

Today, VEA Eco Farm stands as a symbol of hope, innovation, and purpose. With the leadership of Marvin Xavier Nicolas Vea and support from programs like KMME and Kabataang Agribiz, the farm continues to inspire a new generation of agri-preneurs —proving that farming, when guided by vision and heart, can grow more than food; it can grow futures.
