This is my 4th time visiting South Korea, But it is my very first time here in the summer (grabeee ka init)
I always come here during autumn & winter.
This is Myeong-dong Cathedral. Always my first agenda and to-go-place whenever i am here. Ive visited this 4 yrs in a row
Church first, then laag thereafter.
This is Korea's first parish and a breathtaking masterpiece of pure Gothic Revival architecture.
While the Catholic community's roots here trace all the way back to 1784, this specific building was consecrated in 1898. Its elegant pointed arches and that massive bell tower reaching nearly 47 meters high.
But it is so much more than just a stunning visual landmark. It holds the relics of historical martyrs in its underground crypt and during the 1970s and 80s, it actually became a pivotal gathering place for Korea's human rights and democratization movements.
When you stand right here before its grand façade, the contrast between the timeless, intricate masonry and this bright, modern blue sky is truly striking. Even on a sweltering day like today, it remains a deeply moving emblem of faith, resilience, and historic grace in the heart of a bustling city.
