Mrs. Esmeralda D. Manaog, proprietor and manager of Mary’s Abuyog Spesyal Tsokoleyt, Moron, a small production business of chocolate moron, a delicacy made from rice, chocolate, sugar and coconut from her hometown Abuyog, Leyte. Eventually market was established . Since the majority of her market come from Tacloban City. Ms. Manaog decided to locate her processing plant in the city. After Haiyan, she built a new bigger plant with layout designed by DOST, Leyte and EVFST. With a growing market, Ms. Manaog realized that they need to upgrade their production process, improve the packaging system, establish a Sanitation Operating Procedure (SSOP) and upgrade the processing equipment which are mostly manual. Thus, the firm sought the assistance of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Leyte to avail the assistance on Innovation System Support (ISS) under DOST’s SETUP Program. The firm also availed of chocolate moron to confidently sell the product outside of Region 08.
