This is how we place dead crayfish into the pit. 🪦🏴☠️😵
A mortality pit with agricultural lime helps make burial safer by:
✅ Raising pH around the burial zone
✅ Reducing pathogen survival
✅ Controlling odor and flies
✅ Limiting scavengers and runoff risk
Method:
1. Dig the pit away from ponds, streams, drains, and wells.
2. Place only dead crayfish—never live ones.
3. Cover with soil, then add a layer of agricultural lime as a barrier.
4. Backfill and cap with more soil.
5. Mark the site and follow local biosecurity rules.
