Sohan Halwa is a traditional dessert in Afghanistan, India and Pakistan, which is a variety of dense, sweet confection or halwa and believed to be Persian in origin.Sohan HALWA is one of the famous edible product of D.I.Khan. It is the real earnest Souvenir of D.I.Khan city. D.I.Khan is rather known through this Souvenir of Sohan HALWA. In the ending period of 19th century Mr. Allah Bakhsh (Late)
used to deal in Milk, Milk products and also prepared and Sohan HALWA. He ran this business on a small scale in the City at Mohallah “Chori Granwala”. Time rolled on, his son Haji Abdullah Jan started helping his father in his petty business. Haji Abdullah Jan was still a student of 8th class when his father Allah Bakhsh passed away. Haji Abdullah Jan was a young boy when he took up the responsibilities. He worked hard in different capacities and catered to the needs of his family members. After some time Haji Abdullah resumed the same business of his father, selling Milk, Milk Products and Sohan HALWA at Topanwala Bazar. His Mother named Aisha Bibi (Called Ashoo) took up the prime responsibility. She prepared “Soni” by herself at home. She the Mother of Haji Abdullad Jan sit on the shop as well in order to extend helping hand to his son. At that time this Sohan HALWA was known as HALWA of “Old woman”. Haji Abdullah Jan went on making many experiments in the making of HALWA. Ingredients of different nature, their used and various method of making HALWA. All types of HALWA prepared by Haji Abdullah Jan are still remembered by the people who had consumed it. In this business Abdullah’s brother Mubarak Hussain (Late), Muhammad Musa (Late) and his son Muhammad Aslam Collaborated with Haji Abdullah Jan made it a great success. The preparation process of this HALWA required a lot of time, patience and then it was packed in hand made baskets. This Sohan HALWA received a tremendous popularity it was all due to the untiring efforts of Haji Abdullah Jan. In city and its suburb this HALWA is known as Abdullah’s HALWA. This HALWA become so much popular that it started moving out the city as a Souvenir. After the demise of Haji Abdullah Jan his sons Mr.Fayaz hussain and Irshad Hussain further improved the quality of HALWA. Now delicious Sohan HALWA is popular in all over Pakistan. This traditional HALWA is now prepared and sold in different Tin pack and Plastic Packs.
