⚠️ Awareness for Cattle Enthusiasts & Buyers ⚠️
A common marketing tactic we see is animals being presented as "just 6–7 months old" while showing the structure and appearance of a much older calf. Age claims without supporting data can be misleading because every animal grows differently depending on genetics, nutrition, and management.
To put things into perspective, let's look at actual performance records from one of the most proven Brahman sires, V8 160/8.
🔹 V8 160/8 at 205 days of age (almost 7 months): 642 lbs (291 kg)
For comparison:
🔹 Dutton at 205 days of age: 480 lbs (218 kg)
That's a difference of 162 lbs (73 kg) at the same age.
However, context matters.
V8 160/8 was weaned at 232 days, while Dutton was weaned much earlier at 162 days. The additional milk and growth period before weaning contributed significantly to the weight difference.
A genuine 6–7 month old calf, regardless of breed, still carries the appearance of a calf. Exceptional genetics can improve growth, bone, and muscling, but they do not magically turn a young calf into a mature-looking bull. Frame development, muscle expression, body depth, head shape, and overall maturity all provide clues about an animal's true age.
Another point worth noting is the frequent claims of 50 maund (around 2,000 kg) or like that live-weight bulls. In almost all cases, these figures are simply marketing tactics used to create hype and are not backed by scale records as that is not realistically possible.
As buyers and breeders, don't blindly trust every claim. Use both records if available and visual evaluation. Birth dates, weaning data, weight records, dentition, and the animal's overall structure should all support the age being claimed.
✅ Birth date
✅ Weaning age
✅ Actual scale weights
✅ Growth records
✅ Physical appearance and maturity
Facts, records, and a trained eye will always be more reliable than photographs and marketing claims.
