Hello and welcome to the fifth episode of my series — *Flavors of My People.*
In this series, I share recipes inspired by the people I love the most — my friends and family, and the dishes that remind me of them.
Today’s dish is inspired by my beloved mother, Jabeen Awais.😍
Ah… where do I even begin?
Everything I am, everything I have achieved, and everything I have today is because of my mother. I truly would be nothing without her love and support. She is the main reason behind my cooking videos — my inspiration, my mother, my best friend.
🥰
My mother is the most incredible host. Whenever we had guests over, she would prepare so many dishes. As a child, I loved it — and now that I’ve grown up and unknowingly inherited this habit, I realize how exhausting it must have been for her… yet she still did it all with love.
😔
No celebration in our home was ever complete without a BBQ party. She would prepare at least 3–4 BBQ dishes, 2–3 types of salads, and 1–2 desserts — all by herself. Thinking about it now honestly makes my heart ache a little. She must have been so tired, but she never let it show.
🥺
Somehow, I’ve adopted this same habit from her.
I have never seen my mother speak badly about anyone. Even if I try to, she gently stops me. She is one of the kindest and most loving people I know. She truly deserves the best — because she *is* the best.🤩
I’ve learned cooking, baking, and so many cuisines from her, but BBQ will always remind me of her the most — because she handled it all, single-handedly, every single time. She simply loves feeding people.☺️
If you were to visit her at 3 a.m., she would still get up and make something for you without a second thought.
😵💫
And I don’t say this enough — but I feel incredibly lucky that she is my baby’s grandmother. She is always there to help, taking care of my baby like her own — bathing, feeding, playing — just so I can get some rest.🥰
I won’t lie… I got a little emotional while writing this.
