Today, we had the privilege of spending time with an extraordinary woman whose hands and heart are deeply rooted in the soil of Puerto Rico, Tadilka Rivera, founder of La Microfinca in Camuy (Please follow and support).
What grows here is far more than food. It is hope. It is resilience. It is an act of love for Borikén.
As we begin preparing for our 2027 exhibition with photographer JuanCarlos , who is powerfully documenting the women farmers of Puerto Rico, we are reminded that this work begins long before a photograph is ever taken. It begins by listening, building relationships, and standing alongside those who dedicate their lives to feeding our communities and protecting our land.
Across the island, women like Tadilka rise before dawn, tending the earth despite relentless challenges, climate change, prolonged drought, scarce water that is often reserved for the crops before themselves, and an unreliable electrical grid. Yet every morning, they return to the land with unwavering determination, cultivating not only food, but knowledge, community, and a vision for a more sustainable and self-sufficient Puerto Rico. La Microfinca itself grew from Tadilka’s decision to return to her family’s land after Hurricane Maria, transforming it into a living model of agroecological farming and resilience.
This exhibition will not simply tell the story of agriculture. It will honor the women whose calloused hands plant seeds of possibility for generations to come. They remind us that every harvest is an act of resistance, every seed a declaration of hope, and every sunrise another promise to the land they refuse to abandon.
Stay tuned… Coming in March 2027.
